Santiniketan

While I was in Kolkata I took a train to visit Fern who is studying in Santiniketan. She is studying classical Indian vocal music at Visva-Bharati University. This university was started by Rabindranath Tagore an incredibly influential and prolific poet, philosopher, musician and humanist. Fern was a wonderful host. She introduced me to her friends some of whom showed me through the Art Department Khala Bhavana, we biked all over, drank lots of Lasse, listend to Baul Musicians at Hat Bazar and she and a friend played and sang late into the night.

The Train to Santiniketan, where I finally fell in love with India.

Tegore's Glass House,

where people of all faiths are invited to pray.

The house of Amartya Sen, the famous Indian economist

who showed that famine was not a issue of production but one of distribution.

Fern and Deo playing and singing traditional Indian music.

This post is dedicated to Fern for being such a good host, and getting away with it!
